Meanings of some of the most widely known crystals and their attributes.

Agate's most noticable properties overall are balancing yin/yang energy, courage, protection, healing, and calming. Historically it was placed in water for cooking or drinking to dispel sickness. The Metaphysical and Healing Properties Lore of any specific type of agate depend to some extent on the color of the agate, but all agates have certain things in common.

Agate enhances creativity and strengthens the intellect, making it a beneficial stone for both students and artists. It is also known as a good luck stone. As a stone of harmony, one of the things agate does is balance yin/yang energy. Agate increases energy. However, because it is a grounding stone, it does not increase energy at all times, but rather enables bursts of energy as needed. In this way, agate is a conservation stone, and enhances longevity.

Agate is a very protective stone. It is especially protective for children, and makes an excellent stone for children's amulets, medicine bags, jewelry, or just to carry around in a pocket. Agates are said to be especially useful for protecting children from falling.

Emotionally, agate gives courage, emotional strength, self-confidence, and dispels fears.

It can also lessen feelings of envy by grounding the emotions. In the same way, it assists with acceptance of all things. It can be very beneficial for self-examination as well as examination of the circumstances one finds oneself in. These qualities make agate superior for easing anxiety and stress.

Agate can cleanse and stabilize the aura by removing and/or transforming negative energy.

As far as relationships go, agate is a stone of marital and romantic fidelity.

FORM. Effective as rough hewn, tumbled-stone, sculpted, or jewellery.

USES. Healing, dowsing, gem elixir, talismanic charm. Jewellery, ornament, cleanser, rejuvenating generator for other gemstones.

PROPERTIES. Probably the most useful crystal for

all-round healing and cleansing. Removes negativity, helps get rid of pain and releases tension, (especially good with headaches and toothaches being connected to the Crown Chakra).

Helps in the case of bruises and sprains and swellings which will rapidly disappear if gently stroked with an Amethyst ‘palm stone’.

Amethyst is also useful in intestinal complaints and stomach problems as it assists the utilization of vital

vitamins and minerals, and regulates the flora of the large intestine. Spiritually Amethyst helps quieten the mind and is an aid to developing deep inner peace. It will help alleviate grief and sadness and will give support to coming to terms with personal loss.

In Arabic countries Amethyst was put under the pillows of children to prevent nightmares, and is another of the gemstones that resonates especially well with children.

Amethyst can be used to great effect to prevent ‘psychic attack’ and can transmute the ‘negative energy’ thus

created into positive useable energy to once again support the universe (nothing is ever lost!)

Amethyst is an ‘Angel Crystal’ and connects you more powerfully to your own Angels and Guides. May also make communication with them easier.

FORM. Used as a focus stone for meditation and

USES. Provides protection, and opens the door to both the Higher and Angelic realms. Also to the Devic and Fairy realms.

PROPERTIES. Angelite provides a protective field around any environment in which it is used, and when carried on the person protects against many dangers to the person. It is both a ‘sender’ and a ‘receiver’ in

telepathic communications, and makes it easier for you to communicate with Spirit, especially with Totem

Spirits.

It is an excellent crystal to enable promotion in work and furtherance of career.

It is a crystal for raising the state of conscious awareness and for promoting clear and orderly communication.

It is THE crystal of communication, whether that be on a physical or spiritual level.

It can be used to great effect in the ‘re-birthing’ process, facilitates psychic healing on many levels, can help heal infections of the throat and thymus, and help alleviate symptoms relative to the proper working of the heart.

Used to treat infections, balance the blood system and renew blood vessels.

Used together with Mangano Calcite it will help ease a broken heart, and as a trio with Rose Quartz help in the case of heart irregularities and heart disease.

Works well when worn singly in a pouch around the neck.

FORM. Colours can be grey, yellow, green or blue.

Use as ‘pocket stone’ or Talisman.

USES. Generally carried together with other crystals in a pouch, or carried or worn singly to aid as a hunger

suppresser and to encourage healthy eating patterns.

PROPERTIES. Apatite can help us maintain healthy weight (together with other measures) and can be a great aid to weight reduction. Also associated with enhanced psychic development and the ability to ‘tap into’ past lives.

Apatite eases sorrow, increases liveliness, and yet helps with exhaustion. (good when undertaking a new exercise regime)

It mobilises energy and helps form new and healthy cell tissue. Especially associated with healthy teeth and bones.

Excellent as an aid to curing Arthritis, Rickets and all joint problems.

Apatite enhances creativity and being a stone of the future it will bring knowledge to those who use it by clearing mental confusion.

A much underestimated crystal it can help clear and align the Chakras and protect the Aura from psychic

attack.

When used as an aid to meditation is can produce profound

results allowing the user to develop deeper states of meditation and in some cases can be an invaluable aid to astral-travelling, keeping the body safe and calm until your return.

This is a wonderful crystal to combat periods of stress and anger.

Carried about the person it will balance the emotions, and give the ability to be strong in the face of opposition.

It acts almost as a sedating power where stress is concerned, and although it cannot stop you from being stressed altogether, will help combat the stress in evening out the emotions that are

causing you to go into stress mode.

Where anger is concerned, it again puts a sort of block onto the emotions and prevents one losing one's temper, whilst allowing you to see the bigger picture.

It also regulates the finer systems of the psyche by creating a rhythmic and peaceful vibration within the person carrying it.

It is ‘THE’ stress stone and its colour and patterns and usually circular formation when tumbled, lends itself to becoming a wonderful ‘ palm’ stone also.

It is also a wonderful stone to use when meditating for its grounding and centring abilities.

It is very tactile and seems to always feel cool when you are hot, and warm when you are cold!

Aragonite is useful to combat chills and colds, and to bring warmth to the extremities. For poor circulation causing chilled extremities an elixir can be utilised. An elixir can also be used as a spring tonic and for dealing with general aches and pains.

Also helpful in problems of the skin, there have been reports of it being valuable to carry against hair loss and in the prevention of wrinkles and coarse skin.
